The contest seeks to encourage the academy to make use of the open data, which are available on the platform, and promote good practices and the use of them. The Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications, through the Direction of Digital Government, created the contest Data to the U, with the objective of sensitizing the academy on the use of open data, designing a literacy and training program around this theme to encourage the development of products such as visualizations, infographics, hybrid web applications (mashup) and in general any development that uses open data.

he competition has three stages: the first is the call, and is intended to publicize good practices in the use of open data, using standard data or topics such as: safety, health, road infrastructure, agriculture and development rural, or free theme.   Open data enables all public sector entities to publish relevant and quality information in structured formats and are available to users so that they and the entities use it in different ways.

Any university in the country can participate, forming a team of up to three people, from the seventh semester onwards or from any postgraduate level of different programs such as: engineering, agricultural or economic sciences, business administration, social communication and journalism, advertising, design industrial and marketing, politics and government. Each group must have the support of a teacher of the institution to finally deliver a product, according to the data sets selected.

The second stage consists of capacity building, where a series of training, both face-to-face and virtual, will be developed. The first will be done simultaneously; while the registration process is being carried out by the universities, the MinTIC will hold training days, through the team that forms the initiative and the regional digital leaders.

The virtual trainings will be made through two virtual introductory sessions and three streaming sessions, with deepening topics.   Finally, the third stage consists of the recognition of the best products, during the Digital Government Week, in October in Bogotá, there will be a hall of fame with the exhibition of the best 20 products in large format, screen for interactive works and the award by the directives of the MinTIC to inaugurate the space. Likewise, there will be an academic agenda on open data, in which participants can participate in the contest.

Finally, the best products will be promoted through the open data portal, the website of the Digital Government Strategy and social networks.   For more information and attention to the concerns, you can consult the Open Data team at
